Marble Garden Act 1
Damien Blackwell drew his sword over the neck of a thief who grasped an old woman's handbag. Damien clutched his unkempt hair, pulled it back, and heard the screams emitted from the thief's mouth. "Drop it," he growled, his rough voice ringing in the man's ears. "Or I'll drop your head." He heard the sound of coins pouring to the ground followed by a thud as the man struggled out of his tight grip. Damien withdrew his sword, stuck it in his sheaf, and released the man. He stepped onto a silver chain that extended to the man's handcuffed wrists. "Ah, ah, sir. If you thought you were getting away..." He threw the thief into a nearby brick wall and pinned him, his steel armor pressing against the man's clothing. His long, sharp quills extended from the back in anger. Suddenly, Damien heard footsteps in the distance and raised an eyebrow towards the figure.

"Let go of him. Think time in jail will suffice," Ivan said.

Damien bent down to pick up the chain and threw it to his fellow general, who caught it with ease. "Save a beating for me if there is one," Damien told him. He returned the bag to the woman and walked away, heading down the alleyways. He flickered a match and inhaled the smoke from his cigarette. All in a day's work.

He turned a corner and made his way to the local Ruby tavern, stepping in at the ring of the door bell. People filled up benches and talked amongst one another. Lively music played in the background in light of the Gem Festival that the Ruby Kingdom would hold tomorrow. Psh, festivals. Bah humbug. Damien passed by the crowds and greeted the bartender behind the counter. He ordered his favorite elderberry wine, which thankfully remained in continuous production in this kingdom. "Two mugs, please."

"Terrible day, sir?" the bartender asked as he wiped off a glass and proceeded to swoop up Damien's coins as they fell on the counter.

"Nah," he lied and reached for an ashtray to blow out his cigarette. "Just working." He would rather work than go home to that bitch.
