(Next chapter is up. Short and a lot of dialog but the next chapter should be longer. Didn't want to make this one super long do I broke off the beginning. xD) Chapter 8: Siege Ludi and Rabid walked into Hex's quarters. The human looked around for a moment before fixing his eyes on the captain. Ludi on the other hand fixed his attention on the array of items on the desk. His eyes caught a bit of movement to their right, noting that Ezekial walked passed them and stood to the left of his wooden desk. Silence filled the air as the pirate sat in his chair and looked at some old letters. They seemed outdated, yet somehow preserved over a course of many years. The papers were well faded, yet it still remained sturdy with a hint of stiffness. The captain sighs as he closed his eye, letting the papers rest face down on the desk. "This kingdom is fated to rise, lads. Ye can't stop what be heading for us. Not this time, lads, not a chance in the depths of the great sea her self." Ludi and Rabid looked a bit confused, or at least pretended to. The pirate saw through this and squinted his eyes bit with annoyance. "I know who ya'r, Planeswalker." Rabid's fists tightened with pure rage as his eyes narrowed strongly, fixing his menacing glare upon the captain as he thought heavily about leaping over the desk and smashing the captain's head against it. Ludi could tell this name bothered the human. For what reason he wasn't sure, nor did that matter at the moment. "Oh... You're Mist, the shinigami." Ludi spoke up, to which Hex slowly nods as his eye continued to rest upon Rabid. "Well, you must have dropped out a long time ago, Rabid's Royal name changed to-" "Siege... His name was given to him by his father." Captain informs them, changing his voice completely to a deep and smooth one. After he finished Ludi's sentence he lifted up the pieces of papers and waved them a bit. "These letters were written from him before he died in the last rise of the Fated Kingdom." "I wasn't aware there were multiple attempts to stop the rising kingdom." "Kid, I'm one of two people who've been around long enough to know that this kingdom can not be stopped. No magic has been strong enough to stop it. No plague, virus, spell, creature, being, or mage can fort what is to come, and what will continue to come every so many years." "From what you're saying, it sounds like we're not the ones calling the shots here." Hex shook his head lightly and smirked a bit, almost enjoying his answer to this comment. "You're not. These Hauntmares are an old myth, something used ages ago to try and stop the Fated Kingdom. The Eclipse Blades were simply a new way to introduce an old idea... If I haven't made myself clear, Lord Fate isn't 'building' the Fated Kingdom. He is trying to raise his own kingdom to stop the up and coming one... Sad truth, Fate isn't even behind this plan." Both Rabid and Ludi displayed very shocked expressions. For a moment the human's anger vanished as he wasn't aware of this news. "Fate's a clone, if ya didn't know." Their eyes widen as Hex paused, taking delight in their dumbfounded looks they were presenting. "Lilfate, on the other hand, is real. He is in fact the real Fate. During our final struggle against the Fated Kingdom we snatched Fate from their possession..." He paused once more, thinking for a moment before handing the papers over to Ezekial, who then walked over to Rabid and gave them to him. "It doesn't matter now. The Royals, the Guardians, none of them can stop it. Not even with this new dark science you royals seem to be using." "Two questions, if you don't mind." Hex slowly nod his head at Ludi, as if saying he didn't mind answering any questions. "Why aren't you helping either of us?" Hex smirked a bit as he cleared his throat to reply. "The Guardians are just as worse as the Royals. They tried to create a powerful warrior to combat the Hauntmares, not realizing the Hauntmares were created to rid of another powerful force. This time around the Guardians are trying to do the same thing as the Royals. They're going to raise their own mystical kingdom to try and defeat the rising kingdom... Where do you think Blaire is heading to in such a hurry? Lastly, to answer your question, there isn't a point to helping either side. The kingdom will rise up, it'll consume all, and it'll restart the world like it has done for ages. And if we're luckily some of us will survive and be able to take part in the rebirth of this world." Ludi couldn't help but raise his eyebrow at his long reply. As gloomy and 'dooms-day-like' the picture Hex painted seemed, he spoke about it with such boredom that it was hard to believe. It then dawned on Ludi that the Captain must have seen this event thousands of times and tried to stop it each and every time. "Second question... Who is the second person you mentioned before." "Combo... Oddly enough he didn't want to side with the Royals. I bounced back and forth each time, but he seemed to remain faithful to the opposing side. Not really sure why." "I have two questions." Rabid spoke up, then continued to ask his questions without waiting another second. "Who were these letters written to? And if Lord Fate is a clone, were is his real self?" "Those letters were written to me. I knew your father pretty well. As for your second question, Lilfate is the real Fate, so Lord Fate's 'real self' would in fact be Lilfate... Maybe you'll get more from Combo if he feels like telling you. I'm sending Ezekial and Combo with you guys by the way. They'll keep me posted on your pointless progress... Now kindly get off my ship and get yourselves killed." With that said Ludi blinked a few times, shrugged, then turned around and started to head out. Rabid looked at the letters within his hands and began to read them as he exited the room... ~First Letter Dear Shinigami. The other night I had a dream. There was a world full of kings and queens but it was cold, dark as the night. We were the fire on the moonlit skies. We weren't divided, we were the same, and we were free but we all wore chains. We couldn't see it but we created a place between truth and overrated. We had a plan to build a wall. A great divide that would never fall, to separate us from all the pain and keep our skeletons locked away. And brick by brick we built it so thick that it blacked out the sky and all the sunlight. And one by one we all became numb. We were making the bullets to a broken gun... ~Second Letter Dear Shinigami If I could just see it all, just like a fly on the wall... Would I be able to accept what I can't control? And would I share what I saw, or just sit back and ignore like nothing never happened, and I haven't seen you before? I'm on the run from a thief I let into my head. I know I hold the keys so don't be scared when I turn and shout... I don't think I need you anymore. Take your words and your lies and just beat it. Take the hurt and the pain, I don't need it... I wanna live, I wanna be the change... We can all be kings and queens if we can just learn to believe... If we can just learn... To believe... "Your father didn't want Hex's help anymore." Combo's voice pulled Rabid's attention from the letters he was reading. He was so fixed on reading them over and over that he didn't realized they all made it down from the ship. They had set up camp several miles away from the massive sleeping beast the ship was on top of. A fire was crackling several feet away from him. Ludi was to his right, both of them setting themselves on log that was separated from the main group. Pianta felt a bit annoyed and bothered that Ludi and Rabid were having a private meeting with Combo. She didn't like being left out of the loop, yet putting her little leash on Yami once more gave her some enjoyment to beat back this bothersome feeling. Blaire was another one who didn't like the fact that those three were discussing something away from all of them. Even more so knowing that Hex privately spoke to Rabid and Ludi before they left. "He realized the Royals were going about it the wrong way. He died trying to make a change, trying to make a difference." Rabid kept his sights on letters within his hands. He hand three of them, yet the third one seemed to be blank. He figured the message was hidden, but how and why was the tormenting questions that pecked at his mind. "What about the Guardians? I'm sure their methods aren't as noble as they portray them to be." Ludi asked, seeing as Rabid wasn't going to open his mouth anytime soon. "This much is true. The Guardians created a monster of their own. They tried to make one single being to take on the rising kingdom and the Royal's Hauntmares that were spreading like wildfire. The corruption of the Fated Kingdom quickly consumed their great warrior. It turned against them and nearly wiped them all out. The Royals stepped in and saved most of them, housing them in Organ Island... Yeah, I'd like to hear that part of the story being told. The Royals, saving the SB haters, as if anyone would believe such a thing-" "But that is what happened, right?" Combo simply nods his head to Ludi. The mysterious being looked back at Rabid, wondering what was going through his mind now that all this information was given to them. "Why did Hex give these to me? What is the point if there isn't a way to stop the kingdom." Rabid finally spoke after a short pause. "Thought you'd be like your dad and try to figure it out, or finish figuring it out. Maybe you and your son can finally turn things around and stop this cycle from repeating itself." Once again the trio remained silent as Rabid continued to think. His mind was greatly conflicted, trying to figure out where to go from here, who can he trust, and who to gain more help from for whatever cause he planned on putting into motion. "I think... The Royals and the Guardians are suppose to work together." Rabid started off, trying to understand what his father was explaining. "Maybe... Or maybe not... You do know that the Guardians weren't always The Guardians, right?" Both of them looked at Combo with a bit of confusion. He smirked as he leaned back a bit, then lightly waved his head towards Blaire when she wasn't looking in their direction. "Cold-touch over there isn't a just a Guardian. Shes the up and coming queen of a secret society SB has under their belt. This frozen kingdom was discovered by Lord Fate years ago. He managed to thaw out their queen in attempt to prevent the disaster of the Fated Kingdom. Oddly enough, Lord Fate himself is just a puppet. His king lies and waits for the proper moment to step out of the shadows and reign over the Fated Kingdom." A short pause was presented as Ludi and Rabid thought they misunderstood Combo's words. "Yes, you heard me right. The rising kingdom was once overthrown and taken over. However, the kingdom itself remained intact. On the flip side, the kingdom consumed whomever thought they could control it, making their efforts pointless and only delayed the fate of the world... Something like that." Rabid was loosing hope, in himself, within his father, within the Royals and the Guardians, within this world in general. How do you stop something that can never be stopped? How do you destroy something that can not be destroyed? "I think I understand now," Ludi spoke, scratching his hat hard enough to sooth his thinking mind. He was putting the pieces together the more Combo talked, the more he thought about the letters Rabid allowed him to read, and the more he played Hex's words over and over in his brain. "And I think you're right, Rabid... The Royals, the Guardians, the Dark Digitals, and the Frost Empire... All of them are under one person, one king, in hopes to beat down this rising kingdom, in order to conquer the four corners of the world." "There is a problem with that plan though." Rabid started to speak, believing he understands what his father was trying to accomplish. "Lord Fate is on the brink of being taken over by his Dark-Heart. If that happens we'll have a psychopath ruling over four kingdoms-" "You're forgetting something." Combo interjected as he smirked a bit. "Maybe his Dark-Heart is suppose to take over and rule over one kingdom, the Royals. Lord Fate is a pawn that is about to end his line of work. The one pulling the strings here is still out there, calculating and operating within the shadows... Rabid, your father's dream is going to come true... You gonna follow his same mistake-" "Lets get some rest everyone, we're leaving early in the morning!" Blaire called to everyone, directing most of her attention to the trio sitting away from the group. Combo got the hint and smirked, then yawned and stretched as he slowly got up. Rabid's eyes held the letters within his hand tightly. as if debating if he should do something or not. Ludi noticed this and raised his eye brow a bit. "Rabid?" Ludi called softly, not wanting to startle the human but simply wanting to grab his attention. His attempt failed as he continued to fix his eyes upon the fire dancing on the logs. "Ooooh man. I think hes gonna do it." Combo comments as his smirk spread even more. Rabid's eyes narrowed more and more by the second. His breathing started to quicken and deepen. His fists balled up tighter and tighter as he continued to watch the fire. "Excuse me! I believe I-" "Enough!" Rabid shouts as he sprang to his feet and shot a menacing look at Blaire. She was speechless for them moment, mainly because she felt Rabid had now become a threat to her somehow. Ludi knew at that moment that Rabid decided his course of action. He stood up and looked at Pianta, nodding to her as if informing her of their intentions. She got the signal and also stood up, waiting for the next signal to come from Rabid. Suddenly three loud thunderous booms roared as flashes of light lit up the night sky for a quick second. The group gasped at Rabid, Ludi, and Pianta were wearing black robes, decorated to their liking with a number stitched on the back. The tension heated up the cool night air as the other quickly dropped into their fighting stances. Blaire displayed a calm anger as the Royals presented themselves. She didn't want to start a brawl just yet. She figured if they haven't attacked before then there must be a reason for them to reveal themselves at this moment. Seeing as Rabid seemed to be leading this small bunch, she directed her words towards him. "So, Rabid... You've got my attention..." |
