Well now, I guess I'll throw in another chapter then. Its a bit long again, but like the last one its mainly speech and such. Chapter 6: Follow the Reaper Not a second went by when Rabid flung his eyes open once again. He was even more confused now, frustrated, angered, and full of so many questions. His eyes scanned the area. He was in Green Hill Zone again, and at this point he knew what to expect, or rather knew what he should expect. He looked around for Cable, maybe even Saber. He found no one, which caused a bit more irritation as he knew this would be different from the last time as well. However, there was one thing that remained the same. A large shadow was cast over him. Unlike last time, he was ready for this. He quickly rolled out of the way, dodging the large metal foot. However, he also managed to dodge Sonic who was suppose to save him. "Raaah!" Sonic roared, missing him as he slide on all fours to a halt. Sonic wasn't Sonic though. He was a werehog, something that was completely different. Sonic charged, when suddenly Rabid's rifle went off. The bullet burst out the back of the werehog's head, making Sonic roll on the ground as a trail of blood followed him. "What the hell are you-" Right on time it seems. Another shot was fired, silencing Pianta as the bullet coursed through her head. She dropped like a fly as blood ooze from the bullet wound in her head. Rabid spun around, hearing the egg-shaped mecha preparing for another attack. "Green eye..." He mumbled to himself before firing another shot. The bullet hit directly, causing the mecha to explode while smoke covered its remains. Out of the smoke came beastly looking creatures, as if the furry creatures that would pop out of the metal knights transformed into beasts. They quickly attacked Rabid, only he was quicker as his furry was building. Rabid started his assault, taking down several of them within a few seconds. Finally they reached him, to which he leaped back and smacked one with the butt of his rifle. He twirled his gun around and fired two more shots. Once he landed on his feet he fired three more shots, rolled to the side and fired two more, then rolled back once and fired his final shot that killed the last beast. Reaching into his coat pocket he started to reload his gun as he looked around. His eyes displayed a cold and heartless stare. He had one objective, and that was reaching the shiningamis. Another loud stomp was heard, to which he remembered there was two of them now. Taking aim, he quickly fired and hit the green eye head on. Unlike last time though, the machine exploded with great force. It launched him back, making him soar through the air until his back smacked against that invisible wall that lead into the Library. He dropped to his knees as he coughed a bit, clinging to his rifle as he calmed himself down. Another sound caught his attention. It sounded like something hard hit another mecha. He was right. A third mecha was sent flying towards him. He rolled out the way and covered his head as the machine crashed through the wall. He coughed a bit more as he tried to clear the smoke from the crash, standing up and looking towards the one who did this. It looked like a hedgehog was standing on the other side of the smoke. The hedgehog started to clap its hands, stopping behind the smoke as if it didn't want to be seen. The only noticeable aspect of this hedgehog was one of it's eyes was glowing green. "Congratulations, you officially lost it... Well, you can't really lose something you never had..." Rabid squinted his eyes a bit. This voice, he had heard it from somewhere. "Another one bits the dust! Another one swallowed by mush! Eaten by the insanity of a great calamity! Another one lies to trust!" His eyes widen as he remembered the voice now. It was the same voice that has been yelling random nonsense in his head. "Regardless, you made it this far. I guess I'll let you in on a little secret. Its about me, of course... But first! You have to guess who I am. I'll give you a riddle. Ready? 'He said I was a curse, he said I was something worse. I'm in fact not madness, but madness is me. Much like you're not you and most differently not me. He said my name once before a vixen cut him off. Its sad, he was about to explain and take the blindness off... So, who am I?" Rabid started to think. Nothing of what he said made sense. A vixen? That could only be Kammy. Who was he talking to before Kammy cut him off. Was is not a knight? It then clicked in his mind, the memory of him talking to Sir Galahad popped into his mind, the name of the speaker as well. "Sednams..." He spoke, to which the hedgehog clapped his hands again, but he stopped and wagged his finger. "Naughty, naughty sir... That memory isn't yours. It's Fenroars..." Rabid's eyes widen. His mind raced back through the events he had been through. He was right, he didn't have any memories of meeting a silver hedgehog clad in armor. So why was this certain part in his head, allowing him to simply reach back and select it as if it was his own. "At last, my little test is done... For now. See ya around, boy." As soon as the hedgehog finished speaking the smoke cleared, along with the hedgehog it seemed. He was no where to be found. For a moment, Rabid thought he was hallucinating. He couldn't be, how else could he explain the hole in wall. He thought for a moment, then shook his head and regained his focus. He held his rifle in front of him and headed through the hole in the wall, knowing exactly where to go next. Once he arrived at the top of the hill he slid to a halt in horror. The castle was engulfed in flames. He could hear people screaming for their lives within the castle walls. He noticed a small army rushing out of the castle and heading his way. Trailing behind them were dark creatures, slightly different than the ones he saw last time. His attention was soon drawn behind him as he heard the sound of thunder. Of course, it was the other army heading for the tower. "Rabid!!!" A voice called to him. He turned back around and took a step back. The small army and the evil horde behind them were only several feet away from him. "Rabid!! Grab my hand!" Fenroar shouts, galloping on a horse and leaning towards Rabid to scoop him up onto his horse with him. He didn't have to be told twice to reach out his hand, as upon doing so he swung himself onto the horse and quickly spat out his first question, which was becoming his favorite question it seems. "What the hell if going on!" "Sonic and Pianta betrayed us! They handed Excalibur over to King Arthur! Now he is bent on destroying everything in his path with the help of the Dark Gaia Knights!" Rabid rolled his eyes. Of course someone else unleashed some random evil army. "Well, you can forget about Sonic and Pianta! I ended their lives not too long ago!" He shouts back over the loud roaring behind them. "Good! One less thing we-Gaaaaah!!" Suddenly a powerful force fell upon them. The force was so great that the horse they were on snapped like a twig, hurling both Fenroar and Rabid through the air. They both hit the floor and rolled, only to clutch their heads in pain as the pressure continued to weigh them down. Finally it was lifted, allowing for Rabid to quickly shake off the pain and jump to his feet. He panted heavily as he aimed his gun at the large doors that appeared, waiting for the shinigamis to come forth. He didn't even flinch as a large and powerful creature roared so loudly behind him that the ground shook. He kept his eyes focused on the doors and the white light shining through it, waiting to see himself come out. He was disappointed, not to mention shocked when he saw a blue blur leap out of the doors and slid to a halt. His eyes couldn't believe what he was seeing. It was Sonic, dressed as a shinigami. His mind was confused, lost, and utterly overwhelmed. This didn't make any sense, none of it made sense. "Alright you large ugly beast... Time to end this!" Sonic shouts, to which the large demon-like ape monster roared back at him. It was massive in size, bigger than the tower Sonic was standing in front of. Rabid could only watch, until something in him forced him to regain control and snap out of it. He hurried towards the hedgehog in attempt to find some answers. He watched as the hedgehog unsheathed his sword and pointed it towards the sky. "Bankai!!" Sonic shouts, and suddenly a strong energy force roared form the hedgehog, knocking Rabid off of his feet because he was too close. "Open your heart, Chaos!!" Upon this command, a large version of Perfect Chaos burst out of the ground from behind the hedgehog and roared with great power. Rabid slowly got to his feet, watching in amazement as Chaos lunged towards the demon-like monster and pinned part of it's body down. He then watched the hedgehog unsheathed another sword, and also thrust the blade into the air. "Live and learn, Bio Lizard!!" Just like Perfect Chaos, a larger version of Bio Lizard burst from the ground, roaring just as powerful as Chaos did. As well, it did the same thing, lunged towards the demon monster and pinned the rest of it's body down, making it roar and screech loudly. "Now Shadow!" Sonic shouts, to which Shadow the hedgehog leaps through the door and lands next to Sonic, also wearing a shinigami outfit. "Bankai... Chaotic Blast..." Even though he spoke those words calmly, a massive energy burst roared from the hedgehog. He thrusts his hand towards the sky, opening his palm as a giant gold orb started to form above the two of them. It slowly took shape of a massive spearhead, growing in size the longer Shadow held his hand up. Once it was nearly the size of the demon monster, Shadow motioned the spear towards the beast. The spear burst forward and slammed into it's target, unleashing an atomic bomb wind force that knocked back everything. Rabid yelled in great pain as he was flung back. Soaring through the air he found himself facing the large doors. With widen eyes he flew into the white blinding light, expecting to be destroyed on contact. "Oof!" He shouts, sliding to a halt on the other of the doors. He laid there for a moment, thinking he had died again. He slowly opened his eyes to see what became of himself. His eyes meet with several others, all of them were wearing shiningami outfits. Most of them looked at him once and kept walking by. He was on a bridge of some kind, a wooden bridge that had water flowing underneath it. His surroundings were that of an ancient land set in Japan somewhere. He could't understand where he was, or what this place was. "Hey... You alright?" A familiar voice spoke to him. He looked to his right and sees Cable, wearing a shinigami outfit as well. His mind was even more confused. However, his emotions got the best of him as his rage quickly returned. "What the hell is going on!! Who are you!! And who am I!? I swear I'll-" He cut himself short as he reached for his rifle, then realized it wasn't there. Suddenly he felt Cable's foot planted on his neck, driving him to his back with a loud thud as he applied pressure on his throat. Rabid tried moving his foot but was no use, he couldn't move him. "Now, while you're squirming for your life, listen up cause I'm not gonna repeat this..." He starts off, which made Rabid ease up a bit while he listened, still trying to remove the guy's foot from his throat. "First answer... I'll come back to that one later. Second answer, I'm a shinigami, that should be obvious to you by now. Third answer, you're a fake. A copy, a dud, a memory, and at the same time you're an anomaly." Rabid stopped all at once upon hearing his third answer. At this point Cable took his foot off of his throat as he gasped for air, coughing a bit as he rolled on his side and prepared to help himself up. "I... I just want to know whats going on..." He comments between heavy pants, catching his breath before standing up. Cable leaned against the railing of the bridge again, sighing as he knew this was going to take a lot of talking. "First, tell me what you know, then I could see how much explaining I'd need to do-" "I've died several times already. Each time I come back I remember everything that happened..." Rabid was in a rush to get answers, so cutting him off seemed proper for what he wanted. "Only this time I met up with some hedgehog named Sednams, who made me realize I have more than just my own memories in my head..." Cable's expression changed to a serious one once Rabid mentioned Sednams. He waited for a moment to see if Rabid had anything else to say. "Huh... Well, there is your proof that you're actually not who you think you are. Everyone knows who Sednams is. Those that don't aren't real. The real Rabid is a shinigami, like me. You're just some twisted reality of a psycho's game. You're not Rabid, and you're not Taylor. You're only the memories of both of them... The reason why you keep dying and waking up in a similar setting is because you're taking over your other selves. You see, the master mind behind all this formed several paths, or alternate worlds in order to keep us from reaching him. I guess you can call this whole thing one big labyrinth cave. Each tunnel is a different path, and each tunnel has different versions of you set in different worlds. We figured out that the only way to reach the source of this entire thing is to shut down these tunnels by killing everyone in it. These tunnels are formed out of the memories of every person set in that world, mostly the Sonic Blast members. Of course, we get different worlds as these memories start to become twisted by the madness that has taken over." Cable paused for a moment, taking a breath before he explained a bit more, knowing this next part would be a bit tricky to grasps. "So, if we kill everyone, there will be no memories to sustain that current path, or world. This is the anomaly part. When you die, your memories are suppose to die in that branch, in the world that collapsed. Instead, your memories have been traveling into your other selves in this set of alternate worlds. This is only possible because these alternate worlds run on different time frames. So, by the time you died it is already the same time in the other world as when you first experienced your first 'reset...' You still with me here?" Rabid could only display a confused expression. He was lost for words. He was a fake? Nothing more than a memory? "This doesn't make any sense... If the Rabid that killed me... The Shinigmai me... Is the real me... Then how come you're a shinigami? You're not even real, you're a character of Lilfate. And what about Sonic and Shadow? They're shinigamis too?" Cable rolled his eye at this question. He sighed once more as he was about to explain and give him another long drawn out answer. "First, I know I'm just a character, you don't have to remind me... Second, Lilfate isn't like everyone else. Everyone has their certain powers, be it summoning beasts, launching ice-fire from their zanpakuto, or whatever it may be. Lilfate's only power is forming his characters into being as shiningamis. He actually doesn't fight much, even though he pretends to love the thrill of it, he would get creamed if anyone decided to fight him using their own powers. No one messes with him because he can create and form any of this character's at will, which means that we all the powers he grants us upon creation... As for Sonic and Shadow, they're actually real. In case you forgot, we monitor Sonic's world and all of his adventures. So when the madness started to spread we quickly took them in. And this outfit is standard issue for all of us. It keeps the madness infection at bay and provides us with an extra boost of our powers in order to fight the madness... Don't ask me why it had to be this, talk to Lilfate about that." Rabid wasn't satisfied. He wanted more answers. None of this still made sense. What exactly is this madness thing? How did it start spreading? "Anyways, you've spent enough time here. Don't want ya dying in here." Cable tells him, looking at his feet. Rabid followed his eye movement and looked at his own feet. They were vanishing before his eyes. He started to panic as he looked up at Cable. The purple haired human just shrugged, and suddenly power kicked him back through the large door. He screamed in pain as going back through the door hurt more than when he first entered it. He arrived back in front of Excalibur's Tower and rolled several times before sliding on his knees. He slowly got up, shaking his head as his vision slowly cleared. "Gaaah!!" He shouts, feeling a blade pierce through his back and out of his chest. "Stop!!" Rabid, the real Rabid, shouts as he slugged a grey wolf who was also wearing a shinigami outfit. The wolf stumbled back as he ripped his sword out, causing Rabid to cough up blood and drop to his knees. "Taylor!" Rabid shouts, catching him before he dropped to floor. It was strange to hear Rabid call himself 'Taylor.' Then again, according to Cable he was neither Rabid nor Taylor, but only their memories. "The hell is your problem, Rabid." The wolf, who goes by Ezekial, spoke up as he wiped a bit of blood off of his muzzle. "I told you before... Killing Taylor is my responsibility." "Lighten up, Rabid. We need to kill him regardless." Pianta interjects, to which Rabid only ignored her as he tried to keep Taylor alive a bit longer. "He remembers pass events..." Rabid finally spoke up, to which Ezekial displayed a shock expression. "Damn... Just like my memory guy did... He gave us a lot of information about Sednams too... You think he can do the same?" "I don't know, its kinda hard to tell if he's dead." Rabid snapped back at Ezekial. The wolf only crossed his arms and narrowed his eyes. It wasn't like he knew about this. How was he suppose to know anyways? "He'll need a Memory Stone." Cable's voice informed them as he came through the large doors. At his side was Lilfate, and next to him was Hensa, the blue haired human with the headband that had a red jewel on it. "Memory Stone? For what?" Pianta asked. She didn't understand why giving him a Memory Stone would do anything. "If memory serves me well, this is the last world in this set. Once he dies, its impossible for his memories to carry over into the next set of worlds." Lilfate explains, to which Rabid took over. "Inserting the Memory Stone will keep his memories intact, allowing him to travel into any of his other selves." "That is where the problem lies though... He could travel into any of his copies, from any alternate world, in any other world set than this one..." Cable adds, to which the group paused for a moment as Taylor barely hangs onto his own life. "You did say you liked the chase..." Rabid spoke with a smirk, to which Lilfate couldn't help but smirk as well. "Fine... Hensa, send for Soly to heal Taylor. In the mean time, I'll go retrieve the Memory Stone-" "I'd like to come with you." Ezekial cut in, smirking a bit as Lilfate just smiled and nods his head. "Sure... Everyone else, continue to eliminate those that remain in this world. Once you're done here move onto the next world set. By then we should have the Memory Stone inserted into Taylor. Remember, if you find Taylor in any world do not kill him unless you're sure he doesn't have the memory stone. The less Taylor's there are the more we can narrow down which one he'll take over... Move out!" Upon Lilfate's orders everyone disbursed, leaving Taylor alone as he stared up at the sky. He slowly closed his eyes, trying to remain alive as much as he could. He then felt a warm tingling sensation through out his whole body. He opened his eyes a little to see what was going on. A gold transparent energy of some kind was covering him. He could see Hensa and a female shiningami with blond hair. He slowly closed his eyes again, enjoying the soothing feeling that was washing over him. "Geeh!!" He shouts as he felt something force it's way into the center of his chest. He flung his eyes open and held his chest tightly. After the pain dimmed down he lifted up his shirt and noticed a strange marking on his chest that wasn't there before. He suddenly heard the sound of a car blaring it's horn at him. He quickly rolled onto the sidewalk and jumped to his feet, grabbing his rifle and swinging it in front of him. His eyes scanned the area, causing him to slowly let his guard down as he looked upon sky scrappers and tall buildings. Cars zoomed by and people walked around him thinking he was crazy. He sighed, resting his rifle behind him as he looked around again. "... This is not Green Hill Zone..." |
