Galactic Civilizations II is a turn based strategy game set in space. It's your typical expand and conquer type game. I though I'd give it a try because of the relatively high review scores and I am a big fan of turn based strategy. Unfortunately, for me it's a rather disappointing experience. One of the big selling points about the game was the AI and how it adapts. Two typical game experiences for me is that I either completely overwhelm the AI due to my vast culture and resources, or the AI completely overwhelms me; so I am either facing an easy victory or no win scenario. I never really feel sufficiently challenged and it gets boring after a while.
Birth of the Federation is also a turned based strategy set in space. It came out over a decade ago, has numerous bugs and uncompleted features and a weak AI. But I am very fond of this game and thanks to a dedicated fanbase, a lot of these issues have been addressed thanks to custom made fixes and mods.
Elder Scrolls series I think is the pinnacle of RPG games. My personal favourite is Oblivion. Nothing wrong with Skyrim, but Oblivion has a certain fantasy feel about it that I find very endearing. The sheer depth of detail in the series is staggering.
Mass Effect series is a futeristic RPG game. Doesn't quite have as much detail as the Elder scrolls series IMO. The series strength is the characters and the interactions you have with them. Each decision can have a knock on effect in subsequent games, so potentially each game you play could have different outcomes.

Is a Microprose game and a rare but very good one like Master of Orion. In fact if I remember right, a lot of it was inspired by Master of Orion. I am surprised that a youngblood like you'd know about it. Surprised but pleased. |
