Cy-Fox
Chapter 2
0630 Hours – Two Days Later

After a quick breakfast of more fish and rice, Tails had found himself the occupant of a small transport secured by Captain Gonzales as he mentioned the day ago. The transport housed its crew of three (two pilots and a tech) and could hold up to four passengers and their cargo. It looked all the way military, with no frills on the outside except for the insignia of the Air Force in blue painted on each side, along with the craft's identification numbers.

Captain Gonzales had given Tails one of the recruiting station's laptop computers which was linked to the vast Air Force network. Using his given username and password to log into the operating system, which informed him of his new assignment and the relevant changes to his records. Tails instructed the computer to display all information regarding Space Colony ARK that he had access rights to. Seconds later, he was staring at a full-color three dimensional model of the station and Earth, reflecting current conditions. The ARK was designed (as mentioned before) by General Dynamics. It was white and cylindrical, topped by a dome and had several pods in a ring formation around the middle portion, each attached to a tube that went into the main hull.

Then the model faded until it was transparent, with a window covering it. Tails now saw a generic ID photo of himself on the left side. His name and ID number was displayed in large font in lime green. Then it showed his various security clearances, most of which he already knew about. There were several new ones however. ARK-SYSOP, ARK-SEC, ARK-R&D, ARK-SCI and finally ARK-ENG. In layman's terms, he had the highest level of computer and network access with the exception of data that was above his classification level and that of the foreign military and intelligence services unless permission was given by the relevant ambassador and their military and intelligence attaches. He also had access to the ARK's armory, the research and development labs, the science labs and to the Engineering and Maintenance sections. In his spare time, he could help the other administrators and operators manage and optimize the vast network, requisition materials for use in side-projects, serve as a lab assistant or an engineer, and finally take up security patrols. Lots to do to keep him busy. You had to be busy in space, otherwise you went crazy.

Tails closed the laptop and yawned. The trip was almost over. The transport had entered the Sol system a few hours ago and Neptune was approaching. Coming up was Saturn and somewhere there was Ivo Robotnik's base in the asteroid belt.

Maybe he's watching us right now. he thought.

It was entirely possible. Eggman had probes scattered throughout the system, mainly concentrated around the asteroid belt. He had gotten his base only because his grandfather thought that throwing him off the planet and forcing him to fight to live would turn his attitude around. Instead, it gave him a steady, voluminous source of income that allowed him to build up what he had in 2024. Most of his funds were drained by his costly private war but as he waited, his treasury healed. He was probably creating new robot designs and making new plans to set off another war. He would most likely repeat the process until one of the Mobius or Earth-based fleets located and took out his base.

Tails gently placed the laptop into the empty seat to his left and got up. He went over to a self-service vending machine and ordered a large Hershey mint-chocolate bar. He discarded the wrapper, tossing it into the trash bin next to the machine and nibbled at the chocolate bar as he went back to his seat.

Sonic Blast - The Great Great Forum Crisis!!
I could make so many "Good Morning, Vietnam!" references from that but I won't bother XD. And where's the mention of me finding the problem? :P Like Rodney Dangerfield...no respect...no respect at all.

Hello
I've been playing Sonic since...well...uh...when was Windows for Workgroups 3.11 released? XD

Thanksgiving was officially Rick Roll'd
There's video on YouTube. It's even on Google and the news sites XD

Thanksgiving was officially Rick Roll'd
During the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, there was an event like none other. Rick Astley appeared out of a Cartoon Network float and performed "Never Gonna Give You Up" for a few minutes.

I think I died a few days ago from laughing too hard XD

Obey Cy-Fox. He is 'root'
Any time. And cycloptic? You mean cybernetic.

CN=Cy-Fox.OU=Administrators.O=SonicBlast signing off XD

XD Okay MoD. Picture a box full of air. A closed box. This box has a special feature though. At its owner's command, it can create another box out of air inside itself and more boxes if there's enough room. These boxes can interact with each other and also the outside world. That's the concept of a virtual machine. A computer within a computer. The physical one that you can see, hear and touch is the giant box, and the virtual ones are the little ones inside.

In my junior and senior years in high school, I attended a vocational school and took their Network Systems program. In my senior year, we had to do a project in English class demonstrating new knowledge gained from our program. So I took it upon myself to attempt to create a virtual network on one computer where virtualized Windows, MS-DOS, Linux and NetWare servers could communicate amongst each other AND with the actual school network and Internet.

We were learning NetWare 6.5 but I couldn't secure access to it because there wasn't a license available to use. But the technical coordinator was awesome enough to dig up a complete copy of Novell NetWare 4.11 in the warehouse and let me use it. After the project was complete, she even went as far as to allow me to keep it all, including the 250 user license (Stop drooling Veemon, you're going to slime the topic! :P)

I decided to on a limited scale, recreate my project on my Windows 98/Windows XP workstation in my room. NetWare only runs decently on VMWare Server, so I set it up in there.

The server was set up to run on 32MB of virtualized RAM, and a 1 GB virtual hard drive. As the workstation doesn't have a NIC, I set the server to basically use VMWare's built in network. After all of that jazz was done, I fired the VM up.

The first step in NetWare 4.11 installation is to set up DOS. NetWare 5.1 and higher came with a version of Caldera DR-DOS to boot off of. I slapped in Disk 1 of MS-DOS 6.22 and went through the motions of partitioning and formatting the hard drive and swapping disks when DOS was ready to be copied.

Next step was to establish CD-ROM support. DOS doesn't come with any hardware drivers for CD-ROMs, so I threw my Windows 98 CD in and booted off of it to its built-in copy of DOS with CD-ROM support. I threw its driver, OAKCDROM.SYS in my hard drive's DOS directory, changed over to the directory itself and EDITed AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS to get the driver going.

After the required reboot, I slapped in my NetWare 4.11 CD and also the license floppy. I switched over to the CD drive and ran INSTALL. I named the server "CYFOX1" and set up NetWare Directory Services (NDS) with a directory named "SSOURCE". I then found the NetWare supported NIC driver for VMWare Server's virtualized NIC and fed it in. From there it came off without a hitch.

The next thing to do after that was to establish a workstation so that I could fully administrate the server. The original plan was to set up a DOS 6.22 VM with Windows 3.1 added to it, but then I remembered that DOS itself has its own take on the Windows GUI program "NetWare Administrator".

I went through the same motions as before to set up a VM. This time I give DOS 6.22 16 MB of RAM and a 900 MB hard drive. I fed it its disks, copied OAKCDROM.SYS from the Windows 98 CD again, enabled CD-ROM support and had DOS fully operational.

Then I popped in the NetWare 4.11 CD again, started INSTALL and this time selected Client Installation. I picked Client32 for DOS, set up NIC support and had a cup of tea while it copied the client files. Rebooted and I got this at the end of AUTOEXEC.BAT:

For awhile, I stumbled around trying to remember where I had to run LOGIN from. Figured out that it was on a shared drive named F:

Posted Image

I switched to F: and ran LOGIN, identifying myself as "Admin" with success Now it was time to actually do something. I switched over to the server VM and loaded the "MONITOR" module

Before I logged in:

After I logged in:

I switched back over to the DOS VM and fired up NETADMIN. I told it to show what current objects were in the NDS database I set up. It was just me ("Admin") and two volumes. I needed (l)users to play around with. So I created a user named "Veemon" (Tails0600). I didn't take the time to screenshot it, but I did screenshot the next two user creations I did. Those were RevivalDBM (RevivalDBM) and TUlysses (T. Ulysses and Crusader):

I then opened up the RevivalDBM dummy account directly and instructed NETADMIN to show me what his rights to the objects on NDS are.

Posted Image

That done, I then tested the Search function by telling NETADMIN to find TUC's account.

Posted Image

Lo and behold...

Posted Image

There was TUC.

I got out of NETADMIN and then did a DIR through all of the directories that I had access to. Then I decided to have one more bit of fun. I used the SEND command from the server VM's console to show this on my DOS VM:

I then logged out from the DOS VM and shut it down. The NetWare VM's still running.

Now I have a NetWare 4.11 server to fiddle with and learn :D

Need For Speed Porsche Unleashed
I got my copy for only a dollar. Well worth it if you're a Porsche or NFS enthusiast.

Twilight
Seeing the trailer and the coverage of the fangirls, I'm quite glad that I have access to "Hot Fuzz". PC Nick Angel > Edward Cullen for the simple fact that Nick Angel (Simon Pegg) shot a doctor and told him to deal with it, and he can leap over garden fences like he's got a built in Turbo Boost module from the Knight Industries Two Thousand.

Directive 3 - Uh...what was Directive 3 again?

Yallo!~
Not every day you see a Metal Sonic fan. I be the saibu-gu Mairusu "Teirusu" Paua (Whoever that gets that translated to Engl....hey TUC, stop that! I haven't even finished yet! XD). I'm our resident cheesecake and pumpkin pie guy and our resident spook-administrator. Forget the cookies of these mortals, have a slice of cheesecake!

The Eleventh Hour - "Pilot"
Cy-Fox held the stock of the submachine gun against his right shoulder and held it two handed, SWAT style as he pointed the weapon at the car to his left and then right across to the other side. He then tilted his head back and pointed the gun into the air. Couldn't rule out the possibility of someone owning an old Hellfire toting Predator UAV.

The Eleventh Hour - "Pilot"
"Yes, don't be judgmental. We never had to cover the special science advisers until Dr. Hood's car was bombed many years ago." Cy-Fox said, checking to see that the gun was loaded. He racked it to semi-automatic fire and opened the door, leaving the car.

The Eleventh Hour - "Pilot"
Cy-Fox then pulled into a small driveway that turned into a curving drive that led into the small mini-mall complex where the cafe was located. He pulled the sedan into an open parking spot and then turned the key towards him. The engine stopped running and the only other noise within was the ambient humming coming from him. Motors whined as he took ahold of the center console and pulled it down. He pressed the button that opened the console, which had a sleek dangerous looking submachine gun inside. He grabbed ahold of it and pointed it at the ceiling. It was stamped with a serial number and what looked like its designation - "AMP-12".

"Stay here until I sweep our part of the lot." the cyborg said.

Programming Board?
The thing is, programming isn't just for games. It in a way is an art form.

Programming Board?
I don't know how many of you on here are coders (except for a small few) but I reckon that we should have a subforum under Museum of the Arts dedicated to posting up projects, source code (enclosed within 'code' tags of course) and in conjunction with =SB= University, tutorials and resources to rope in newbie programmers.
