Ratchet and Clank Future: Quest for Booty
Slightly more info about the game. :D

Warning: The following article contains endgame spoilers from Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction.

Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty, the next entry in Insmoniac's cartoony PlayStation 3 platforming series, is a little different than the last one.

Instead of being a full-priced $59.99 retail title sporting 20 or so hours of gameplay, Quest for Booty is a smaller, shorter title that will be downloadable from the online PlayStation Store later this summer for $14.99.

It's the first downloadable game from Insomniac, which describes the effort as its way of "testing the waters" with episodic content. The studio had previously teased that the Ratchet & Clank Future franchise would "touch the PlayStation Network somehow," but had remained mum on the specifics because those details were in constant flux.

In fact, Quest for Booty wasn't originally conceived as a standalone game at all. It was initially meant to be a downloadable level for Tools of Destruction, one that would sate fan demands for more exploration and platforming. But it kept getting bigger, growing from one level to three separate islands, with some sea battles mixed in for safe measure.

However, the shift in pricing and distribution aren't the only changes. While Quest for Booty certainly appears to be your traditional Ratchet & Clank title at first glance--complete with a brightly colored hub world and a few quests that can be tackled in any order--there are a few tweaks.

For one, Ratchet can now use his trademark swingin' wrench as a tether to pull objects, such as an expandable bridge. He can also use it to pick up objects, like a glowing bug to light the way in a dark cave or an explosive volcanic rock.

But the biggest change, by far, is the part where Ratchet's robotic sidekick Clank is missing in action, per his mysterious disappearance at the end of Tools of Destruction--the impetus behind Ratchet's latest adventure.

Seeing as how Clank had become a vital character to the series' gameplay--it was his mechanical chassis that often solved puzzles and allowed Ratchet to hover and glide--that's bound to have an effect on how this latest adventure plays out.

Though from what I've played of Quest for Booty thus far, it seems the separation isn't all bad. While the absence of Clank and his abilities is definitely felt, the title certainly retains all of the core gameplay and platforming elements, and even manages to throw in some new mechanics and a psuedo-sidekick so players don't get too lonely.

The section I sampled was classic Ratchet, with our furry hero canvasing the island for a number of wind turbines, which had to be activated in order to open up the next area. Each turbine required a bit of platforming--carefully timed jumps, dangling from ledges, avoiding steam blasts from the wall--to climb before getting a chance to turn the activating bolt.

It's not the first time Insomniac has separated the furry-metal duo. Back in 2005, Ratchet: Deadlocked, the series' fourth entry, focused entirely on Ratchet's combat-heavy tour of duty on a kill-or-be-killed game show--a move that didn't jive with fans accustomed to the traditional lighthearted tone and platforming elements.

So what made the developers think they could once again separate Ratchet and Clank without resulting in a lesser game?

"With Deadlocked, we took a lot of risks with the theme and we took out a lot of the platforming exploration," Allgeier admitted.

"I think the key [with Quest for Booty] was that we were sticking to the roots of what has made the Ratchet games so great, and that's the theme and platforming exploration," he explained.

Allgeier further noted that the title will have Ratchet solving puzzles, a feat that used to be Clank's area of expertise.

"But we still have Clank involved in the storyline," he teased with a smile. "More will be revealed."

Apple entering the handheld market?
I'm hoping they fail..., but you know people will buy it just because it's Apple... There's just not enough room for three handheld gaming systems. The new Apple handheld is the iPhone, they are now making it a handheld gaming system... Here are some reasons why I think it SUCKS.

First of all... The graphics won't be up to par with PSP and probably not to the DS.
Second of all... It has no face buttons. I don't care if it has touch screen, it's only touch screen and that sucks...
Third of all... They have no format for games, they have to go on internal memory. So the games have to be small(so you can fit more onto it) and if not, you can't fit many onto it. You can only fit so many games onto a memory card/hard drive and it's ultimate fail to not have a cartridge or mini disc(like PSP). The games won't be full fledged with the quality of that in which Sony/Nintendo have.

The TRUE console wars.
Too bad with my slow internet, I can't watch it. Although by the sounds of it, it's funny. Sony should have had Sweet Tooth. Everyone forgets about him, and he owns all. XD Except for maybe Kratos.

OMG Hardware 2 announced!!
Ironically it's being joint developed by Incognito that was the company that developed the old and new Twisted Metal games. Although the PS3 Twisted Metal is being developed by Eat Sleep Play(lead director of TM started his own company). I wonder what the new TM will be like and how these will be compared.

I agree that it will be interesting to see how they pull it off, because to my knowledge, they don't even have that many in PC games...

Hello!
Well yeah, his latest efforts weren't too great, but I have high hopes for the new upcoming games.

Uncharted back on the charts!
XD I knew someone would comment about that. XD

OMG Hardware 2 announced!!
I didn't see this coming... Competition for Twisted Metal?! *drools*

Every gaming forum is waiting impatiently for the new exclusive game information (which was supposed to be announced August 3rd), today I’m honored to announce the following game: (please note that it is a concept name, and still can be different when it comes out) Hardware 2.

Hardware 2 is a joint effort being developed by Sony London Studios, Sony Liverpool, and Incognito. This is major news because of the highly talented developers behind this project.

However, I do know that some of you will be disappointed because most people thought Hardware online arena was average, well don’t be… Hardware 2 (concept name) will be different. Similar to the first Hardware you’ll be able to fight in tanks and jeeps, but this time around, bikes and helicopters are added into the fray. You can fully customize every part on your vehicle including color, items, weapons and more. The biggest change however are the environments: You can fight in a living and breathing world and you can destroy everything…you can even just kill your enemies by letting an apartment building crash into them. The damage will be unbelievable because everything is linked together, when you destroy a building it can crash onto another building and get damaged realistically. Decapitation of limbs, smashing people under buildings, or just being a happy guy that runs over people for a living is something that is normal in Hardware 2 (concept name). You can look at it as the next gen Carmageddon meets Twisted metal. Did I mention that you will fight 50 vs 50 yet? You can even go berserk and try a deathmatch against 99 other players. You’ve got the basic stuff like Deathmatch, Team Deatchmatch, CTF and King of the Hill but you’ve also got several original game modes, making up a total of 14! Rest assured, these are already created and being tested. You will also have the ability to play mini games online like “do the most damage” or “kill the most pedestrians”.

A cool feature about Hardware 2 (concept name) is something similar to the “Takedown” feature in Burnout Paradise. Every time that you kill an enemy you’ll see a box with a camera inside the vehicle and you see how the character dies and believe me when i say some deaths are very painful to look at. The online part will be very important and they are going to make sure that clan support is included. You can have a clan emblem, create your own tournaments, and build up your reputation. The reputation is something special. Some games encourage that you destroy buildings and kill innocent people…well, Hardware 2 is different. One should avoid it… you’ll need to make the decision whether your shot will be accurate enough or not, and if you’re wrong, you might kill 50 people! That’s what military is all about. The more ‘clean’ you play, the better your reputation will become.

Much more details and exclusive images are coming soon!

Uncharted back on the charts!
After 9 months since its release it is back on the best selling charts. It's in Amazon's top 20 best selling games now. Pretty strange that an old game would be reemerging as a popular title. It always sold steady, but dropped off the charts after a few months. I guess all of the people who recently got a PS3 are enjoying all of the AAA games they missed out on. :D

Feminists outraged by new sony game...
I think it's kinda funny though. You have to feed the princess cake to make her fat so the team will have a hard time capturing her. :D Sounds like an interesting twist on Capture the Flag.

This needs to be noticed.

Yeah, I agree, this is the worst forum I have been to in terms of inappropiate language. Unfortunately, I'm not an admin or mod running it, they clearly allow it because I brought it up before and it hasn't stopped.

And what in turn happens? People yell at me instead...
Oh boy you should see Sonic Turbine. <3 They actually let us say the words that get bleeped here. Actually, we barely about Sonic over there ._. But personally, I still think this forum should not be a forum for little kids. Next, the forum will have a commercial, advertising to kids who watch Nickelodeon or Disney or something.

Oh and I still vote for a mature section but because of one person when everybody else agreed, we couldn't have it. But that one person is an admin so we didn't really stand a chance ;_;

For example, the thread Y HALO THAR made when he migrated from Sonic Turbine, to this location, turned from an inappropiate hello, to one of the most sexually worded conversations I have read on Sonic Blast.

Oh and Y HALO THAR is a woman! D:<
I was the one who brought up and supported the idea in the FIRST place. I disagree with it now, because it causes flaming when "touchy" subjects are made and sexual discussion should not be discussed here whatsoever, even if it's a "mature" section.

This isn't a forum for little kids..., it's for everyone. However, it's little kids/teens that complain about not being able to use vulgarities in the first place. Adults do not need to cuss or discuss sex to have a mature, thought out discussion.

Slight update with the support forum.
Yes, I lost my internet and haven't been able to get here often, but I am still dedicated to this place.

I just updated the description and added a list of "intentions" that makes it clear what the support forum is for. It's mainly to clarify that it is for suggestions and feedback for the forum as well as questions about the forum.

Soul Calibur IV
Vader > Yoda. :D This game looks interesting, but I never really got into Soul Caliber. I'll be sticking to Tekken 6. ;)

MOD, I believe it's a PS3 game. It's a PSN game. PSN games are usually small games or wacky games. Similar to Live Arcade.

I decided to make one more. ;) Mr. Slam is my favorite... well one of my favorites, there are so many kick arse characters, so it's hard to choose.

Ok, I guess it can be moved. :P Anyway, I like the Sonic and Ratchet ones the most too. The Sweet Tooth one is funny. :D

Going to say something Haro?

Looks like this party's just getting started.
Welcome to the forum, it's great to see you!

God of war 3
That's not much and it's closing, I don't see how selling more makes a system have better exclusives or developers look to Microsoft...

Feminists outraged by new sony game...
LMAO!!

She's plump, powerful and ready to cause more controversy than "SuperSize Me."

She's Fat Princess, the star of Sony's upcoming video game of the same name. Debuting at last week's E3 expo, the colorful Fat Princess is a capture-the-flag game with a twist: you can thwart capture attempts by locking the once-thin princess in a dungeon and stuffing her full of cake, thereby increasing her girth and making her harder for your enemies to haul back to home base.

According to popular gaming blog Joystiq, two feminist gaming sites have already voiced their displeasure with the weighty issue.

Feminist Gamer's "Mighty Ponygirl" rings in diplomatically, suggesting a new way to play the game altogether.

"Instead of running out into the forest to find cake to fatten up the princess with, why not go out and find gold (which is a lot heavier than cake) to stuff into a treasure chest. The more gold in the chest, the heavier it would be, and the harder it would be to carry," she said, before adding, "Oh, but that's not as "cute" as cake and fat chicks. Right."

Over at Shakesville, however, writer Melissa McEwan cuts to the chase, telling Sony she's "positively thrilled to see such unyielding dedication to creating a new generation of fat-hating, heteronormative ---holes."

Sony has yet to issue an official response, although Joystiq did receive a particularly informative update from James Green, Fat Princess' lead art director, who clued gamers in on the origins of the game:

"Does it make it better or worse that the concept artist (who designed the look, characters, everything) is a girl?"

Hmmm...hope the game's detractors don't mind eating a bit of crow.
