EA: Uncharted 2 Is “Beacon Of Hope” For The Gaming Industry

...There is a problem with this.
Ebert is a movie critic. Not a video game critic.
Why does the gaming industry feel it has to answer to a movie critic now?
Um, it really has nothing to do with Ebert, this is just EA saying this and the article is comparing what he has said to what Ebert said.

Sonic game for the 3DS announced!
I think the 3DS is a neat idea to get 3D out there to the masses, it's just the 3D is highly inferior to 3D capable TVs. It's not real 3D, it's just depth of field, and has to be held at the right angle to work. To me it's just another gimmick to help it sell with graphics that are no better than what's already out there on handhelds. But as we all know, Nintendo has found that it's not games that sell your hardware it's what kind of wacky feature you include with it.

Still better than the ipod though, but I sadly won't get to play this game.

Don't forget iPhone footage. Man, going through loops on that version is a bit too disorienting--
Geeze... I don't know what Apple was thinking when they decided to make the ipod/iphone a gaming device, it absolutely SUCKS for games and I've tried it. Sonic 4 on iPhone looks pretty horrible too.
Well it depends on the quality of the game and how innovative it is. Most of the Sonic games are just meh on the iPod/iPhone. The better games are usually ones taking advantage of the Accelerometer. But that's off-topic, so...

I'm glad the game leaked on the internet. Sega would have left in the state it is, just like '06 (even though that was delayed). Luckily Sonic 4 was at least in a state of being fixable, where something like '06 was just beyond saving.
Just adding different ways to control a game does not make a game innovative. Anyway I'm planning on buying this game. :) I just hope they eventually compile all of the episodes onto a disc.

I doubt lion is all that much different tasting... I've had Buffalo and it's just like beef only more lean.

EA: Uncharted 2 Is “Beacon Of Hope” For The Gaming Industry
Uncharted 2 keeps getting praise. It really is a great game and it's a shame that not everyone can play it.

Quote:

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves came out exactly eight months ago, and since then, it has become the PS3’s fastest selling exclusive title. Rightfully so too; the game has received critical praise from entire gaming industry.

From great story-telling to topnotch narration, Naughty Dog got everything right with that game. So much so that EA sees the title as a “beacon of hope” for the industry.

In a question posed to the publisher by Fast Company, concerning Roger Ebert’s comments, when he uttered that gaming is not and will never be art, Nick Earl, Senior VP and Group GM, Electronic Arts said:

“I think Uncharted 2 is one of the most incredible, flawless entertainment experiences that I have played in my entire career,” he said. “If he played that game, he would be able to get through it as a non-gamer, because you can’t help but get through it. It is just so beautifully delivered–the dialogue, the story, the acting is world class.”

“It will match up against any movie, in my opinion. I give them tremendous credit for what they did in that game.”

He added: “To me that is a beacon of hope for the industry, especially my group. I think it is art. It is absolutely art.

“You may have different opinions along the way,” he continued, “[but] in the end you can’t argue that is a wonderful experience that makes you feel so emotionally connected–I think that’s what art is all about. I can tell you we have such aspirations here to match that quality. I think we are not going to rest until we match that in every franchise.”

“It’s not just Uncharted. We are seeing a very strong macro-trend towards epic moments inside of a game. Call of Duty does it very effectively in their games. You feel like you are part of something absolutely magnificent. And it doesn’t require you doing a 17-button combo to pull that off.

There are magnificent moments in Street Fighter when it was in the arcade, but you had to hit six buttons to do it. What we’re learning is that if you go out to a broader audience you have to be able to deliver something magnificent regardless of your skill as a gamer.”

Well, what do you have to say about that Mr. Ebert? I reckon, videogames are art in every sense of the word. Art that’s even more difficult to bring to life than movies, since all the characters must be created, whereas with movies, human beings readily play their roles, naturally.

Dreamcast games coming to XBL/PSN
It's basically SADX because the screens released for the ports have fingers on the characters(DC version were just blocks with lines in them) AND enhanced in HD, similarly to how the God of War Collection was done.

Importing PS3 games
I've imported one game from Hong Kong, WipEout HD Fury. It's in both Chinese/English so I just switched to English. I only did that because I wanted it on a disk, the North American version is PSN only.

It greatly helps if you know foreign languages. There are a few European and a lot of Japanese games that aren't in North America.

To disregard CD as canon at this point in time would be to disregard Sonic Adventure and subsequently every other major 3D release.
Well now that Sonic 4 is about to be out, we can disregard all of the ones that came out after Sonic 3 & Knuckles and consider it the true sequel. ;)

Sonic Free Riders
I don't see this going down too well. The Sonic game on Eyetoy for PS2 sucked but I don't know too much about this game yet so I'd have to see it for myself when it's finished.

I didn't move anything, I merely mentioned that not all of the art had it on him. It was not standard and even if it were, those pictures have a WHITE buckle. Clearly unacceptable if Sonic 4 has a yellow buckle.
First you said the buckle appeared in the Saturn era, then you said that it had to be seen in the Genesis artwork, then you said that it had to be on the boxart, and now it has to be yellow. Well, it is yellow--

It's a definitive, official model sheet from Sega's own art asset CD. You can't get more official and canon than that. You've been moving the goalpost; Defining more and more specific parameters that my argument has to account for whenever it proves a previous parameter wrong. xP
Stop twisting my words and bringing up old stuff. Saturn era, Saturn era, Saturn era... I already addressed that and it is no longer relevant. I never said it had to be on the boxart either, only that it was not present in many of the official artworks.

I have not been moving anything and you're arguing for no reason as it was a joke.

Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit
Hmmm, I read that this game will have 200 miles of open road! So, it's going to be open world. Also it will be 3D on PC and PS3.

Well in those Sonic 2 pics(are they really Sonic 2 pictures? The box art has no buckle on his shoes), the buckle is white. They changed it yellow for Sonic 4!!!! This must be changed.

Plus on Sonic 3 he had no buckle.

I'm arguing because I think I have an agreeable position, just as you do, given that you responded back to me. If you honestly didn't have time for this topic or didn't want to seem as argumentative as you call me, you were free to completely ignore my post.

Also, Sonic CD came out in 1993. S3&K both came out in 1994.

Regardless, no game graphically rendered his buckle, but there are art pieces before and after the one I posted that show a buckle of some kind. It wasn't just a part of CD; It was a staple of his design throughout the era and thus tied to the other games too.

And as I said, Sonic CD is canon by virtue of being referenced later, and considering as such, Sonic 4 can be considered a sequel to it too, just as Sonic Adventure can be considered a sequel to the classics because it directly references mythos introduced in S3&K as major plot points, despite the fact that it's on the Dreamcast.
No, I disagree with Sonic 4 being any sort of sequel to Sonic CD seeing as S3&K came out the year after which you acknowledge. Not to mention Sega says it takes place directly after Sonic & Knuckles which makes it a direct sequel to that game(which had no buckle on his shoe in the official art). Also if you look at any official art for Sonic 1, 2, and 3, there are no buckles on his shoe.
