Revamping the Website!
I've tasked Lacen to add content to the website because he was more than happy to do so. He was made administrator along time ago to help make a website. Since then I made my own but it has been lacking on the content front which is where he comes in.

Anyway, what do you think we should do with the website? I know the forum is our #1 priority but we do have someone helping with our website so any thoughts or suggestions?

hey (͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Dude you joined a while ago but now just introducing yourself? Awesome!

What is the WORST movie you have ever seen?
Pianta
Mar 24 2013, 02:13 PM
The worst movie ever was definitely The Room by Tommy Wiseau. Not only the acting was terrible and laughable but there was a non-excising story line which made the movie even less believable. When you watch it you can only wonder what they were smoking while making this. They were actually taking this serious... Though, the director, writer and lead actor were all the same person. IMDB gives it a 3,3.

Next you have Birdemic: Shock and Terror. I attempted to watch this when I saw a few reviews - they claimed it's the best worst movie of all time, so I figured why not? The first few minutes were somniferous, I couldn't even continue it at that moment. I might finish it someday though, with enough alcohol in my system. IMDB gives it a 1,9 and there's a part 2 in the making. Unbelievable. xD
Yes I've seen that movie and it's horrible but hilarious in just how horrible it is!! I actually did watch it to the end(it's on netflix) but the ending leaves you wondering if you're at the end or not because it just sets there for a minute watching birds fly off into the sky...

Freaking 3DS
Have you successfully entered it on your PSN account? If it worked there then there must be something you're entering in wrong or maybe not. Calling Nintendo customer service would be another option.

Banjo Kazooie could return . . . On Wii U?

Ah, wait, I actually follow that Twitter account.

Unfortunately, I recalled them saying it would be unlikely, but they hope to make a game as great as Banjo-Kazooie. They want to start off with indie games and then something greater.

I could be wrong though, but I don't think that description in their twitter account was referring to Banjo.

I would be fully ecstatic to play Banjo again, so I hope it's true. :V
Yeah they could make a new series that's potentially as great as Banjo but Banjo will never be on a Nintendo system again. Microsoft would have to sell Rare and then Rare would have to give up the ip or hire them all.

Mark Cerny and Yugi Naka!

Wow, that's pretty damn cool! Where'd you find this Neo?
There is an article on the guy at 1up with interviews regarding his whole career. I really am just surprised because this is something that I've never heard of regarding Sonic history when I thought I knew all there was to it....

Anyone remember Soap shoes?
They make me over a half inch taller, I'm nearly 6'7" with them on. lol I have experimented on rails today. I can get them but it's hard, it's so easy for your feet to slide out from under you leaving your flat on your face. That hasn't happened to me yet but almost. lol I can't wait to get the balance thing mastered!

Mark Cerny and Yugi Naka!
Wow... I did not know this, but this guy helped save Sonic and has had a huge influence on the industry. I won't get into all of that as it's not Sonic-related but here's a small excerpt of his history:
Quote:

But when you look back his whole career, from developing the hit Marble Madness at the age of 18 to getting Sega of Japan to create 3D games on the Master System at the age of 21, or from launching such franchises as Crash Bandicoot and Spyro for Universal to helping save the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise for Sega, there really is no one in the games industry who has enjoyed such a varied career.

Now... Read this excerpt! This is something I have never heard of.. Yugi Naka actually quit and he convinced him to come back. Without him Sonic 2 may have sucked big time! Anyone know about this info?
Quote:

At the age of 21, Sega asked Mark to move to Japan to work on games for the Master System, and he convinced the company to do 3D games. After working in Japan he met a lot of talented developers, including Yuji Naka, who was porting a lot of Sega's top arcade games to the home consoles. Naka created Sonic the Hedgehog -- but when he didn't get the credit or reward for making Sega's first million selling game, he quit. So Mark was able to convince Naka to come to the U.S. to work on Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

Shenmue III
Well first we have an article showing that Yu Suzuki is thinking about crowdfunding Shenmue III! It's a good idea, but do you think there are still enough fans to fund the game or even enough fans from when it came out??? Idk about that... My guess is it'd have to take hard dedication and non fans to be interested.
http://www.joystiq.com/2013/03/04/yu-suzuki-thinking-about-crowdfunding-for-shenmue-3/

Second we have an article showing Yu Suzuki with Mark Cerny(worked with Sega for Sonic the Hedgehog and Sony on Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter, and the upcoming PS4 game Knack) and apparently they are talking strategy for Shenmue III. Perhaps they'll work out a deal to get Sony to fund the game? It's not outlandish, they did fund Quantic Dream's Heavy Rain when no other publishers were willing to take the risk on such a non-traditional game.

I somehow get the feeling that an Epic Lulz would only prove the point that the Anti-Shack crowd is trying to make. ¦D;

Also you need to redownload Skype anyway. I've got you on my contacts but you're never around.
Epic Lulz is great and it started with me creating a fake account(without the knowledge of most) and arguing back and forth with myself. rofl! It is fun but it shouldn't be overdone...

Entire of Waste, but take a look anyway!
I've started advertising in places that I normally wouldn't. Just typed in, "forum promotion" and found a plethora of advertising sites.

EDIT: Also, it may help to start advertising again, so we can get some fresh blood in here who actually care to discuss and comment on things.
That might be what it needs to boil down to. I don't go anywhere as much as here but the places I do, I make sure to advertise this place! I'd advise everyone else to do so as well.

Also I ask everyone to not resort to cursing, it doesn't bode well in debates.

PS4 will eliminate the point of game reviews!

In short, I first read reviews, previews, articles and such to see if there's anything in a game that catches my interest. Reviews, whether paid or not, are people's opinions, and so I take what is said in them with a grain of salt. This grain of salt is in the form of previews and at least mostly unbiased articles, such as what one might find on Wikipedia. Between these two things I can begin to formulate some sort of an opinion on whether or not a game is one that would interest me.

I move onto videos only if it does catch my interest, because I have fairly limited internet bandwidth, and I usually try to use it as minimally as possible. These videos will add to the previous conceptions I've had of the game by showing me roughly what it might play like.

If there's to be something like a "try before you buy", I'll only move onto try this if watching gameplay videos catches my interest enough. As said, my bandwidth is fairly limited, so I start small and only work my way up if something interests me enough. Trying it will add onto the information I received by watching gameplay videos, because it will teach me some amount of the controls.

So really, for me, "try before you buy" will be just adding one thing to my foreknowledge of a game before getting it. If others jump into the "try before you buy" thing more quickly than I do, then that's great. I like my deliberate and slow method of determining whether or not I really want a game, but I don't begrudge those who would rather choose a bit more quickly.
I see, that makes sense and I agree I take them with a grain of salt as well. I usually don't even read reviews I just read previews which tell you about the game without giving you their opinion on the game.

I can tell you that I'd be trying out a lot more games though with the ability to play any game for a time and not have to wait for it to finish downloading will make it less daunting.

Maybe I'm missing the point here but don't reviews normally come out before a game is released?
The "Try before you buy" thing sounds like it would be available on release day, So why couldn't people read reviews to decide what they want to try before they buy?
Not if there's an embargo placed on the reviews, not all reviews come out before the game does. I just think the ability to form your own opinion would outweigh using someone else's opinion to make a purchase choice. In a sense it's kinda like renting except you aren't paying to rent it.

Anyone remember Soap shoes?
Well I just received my Soaps! They are so much fun but I suck at it! I was a lot easier in my head but it's hard to land it perfectly in the center so it actually slides. I've just been doing curbs and concrete benches(those are the best) so far to get a feel for it. I've been thinking about doing a low hand rail though. Super awesome!!!

In my particular case, I doubt reviews are going anywhere.

See, how I work with games is I first hear about them, then I read about them at length (reviews, articles, information, etc.), then I watch gameplay videos. It takes me over a month to decide whether I want a game or not, simply because I'm a cautious shopper. Sonic games are my only exception, but I usually give those a couple of weeks to mull over still before deciding. If anything, "try before you buy" will simply give me a final step to the process, for after gameplay videos.

But, then, I can't speak for everybody. Maybe others will jump upon the "try before you buy" idea without a second glance and things will change. It's hard to say.

Why would you watch gameplay when you can actually play the game? Experiencing it is so much better than watching other people's experiences. I could see reading previews before it comes out to get a feel for it but after that you can play the game yourself. I honestly don't care for reviews... So many of them are bought and paid for or the site just gets the wrong person to review it(like someone who hates sports rating a baseball game for example). There are highly rated games that I just don't like and low rated games that I do like and letting the masses try the game will hopefully reduce buyers remorse all together and get more obscure games exposure.

So Sony are trying to reinvent the demo?

This won't affect anything, I'll be betting this scheme is heavily limited... just like a demo. Which most games already have. I point y'all towards XBL - you can even rate games out of 5 and you'll see the average score. I think Sonic Generations is 4.5, rated by a few thousand players...

/thread

It's not a demo, it's the full game that you get to try. Obviously there will be some limit to how much of it you can play but it won't be one or two select levels from random segments of the game like a demo. My guess is it'll be similar to how Playstation Plus is right now in that you dl the full game(in this case PS4 will let you play while you're still downloading) and you get an hour to play. That's different from a demo and every game will have this feature even obscure ones that don't get demos.

@Nail. You have a point there, I've played games where the most spectacular parts were at the beginning. I suppose it all depends on how much time they give you to play the full game. An hour could suffice depending on the game but I wonder if they'll give more?

Here's some things to talk about concerning Sonic that no one is talking about here, directly lifted from SSMB:

Unanswered Sonic Questions (unexplained concepts, vague story ideas, plot holes, etc.)
Forgotten Sonic Music
Best Sonic Fanart
Combat in Sonic Games
Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions Concept For a Sonic Game
Sonic Jump vs. Sonic Dash
Sonic Unleashed Vs Sonic Colors
Sonic Unleashed Generations Mod Project
Knuckles: Relic of a Bygone Era or Major Character?
Sonic 1 & 2 Taxman Remakes
Hunnid-P Working On Music For the Next Sonic Game

And my topic:

The Problems of Sonic as a Theatrical Hero.

There's shit to talk about.

This topic demonstrates the problem I have literally always had with the Shack and Casino in general ever since I signed up here: people are going to come for the spam and chatter and not actual forum discussion, the latter of which being the reason a forum exists, not to parallel a Skype chat. The moment this happens, the moment a section like this is allowed to grow, every other forum section and dare I say the entire community pays the price. Your community is held together by spam. The goings-on have a rippling effect on the way people type and behave board-wide, which in turn makes it that much more difficult for staff to do a good job.

This idea that there's nothing to talk about, even in terms of the Sonic section, is also ludicrous. I point to SSMB (who used to have a spam forum) which has bustling Archie and general canon/character discussion, large topics about Sonic Jump and Sonic Dash, and news on Sonic 1 and 2 remakes by Taxman. The Sonic section alone is going strong even without news of a boxed game in sight, so I think the excuse that there's nothing to talk about is just that- an excuse. The issue is that people never saw SB as a discussion forum first and foremost in the first place, so it's not being treated like one.

And those are my exact problems as well, just way more eloquently worded. lol There are plenty of things to talk about and having a rampant spam section does make a forum unhealthy.
