Wow, what Sony did for the PS4 launch in Rome to the Pope's castle was pretty neat!

Persona 5 announced!

I view it more as "we know the PS4 isn't 100% so we'll stick with what works". But maybe that's wishful thinking.

It's more likely development started on the PS3 a while ago and moving it up to the next console would be more hassle than it's worth.

More interested in Persona Q than Persona 5, but that's mostly down to having nothing to go on beyond a tagline and some chairs.

Might have to take a look at P3P before the game is out.
FFversusXIII moved to the next console(as FFXV) despite being worked on since like 2006 and it's rumored The Last Guardian did as well. PS4 is selling like hotcakes so I doubt they are avoiding it. The most likely conclusion is what you said and there will always be some companies that don't move on right away. PS2 still had great games coming out long after the PS3 came out and same with the PS1(albeit not to the same extent). So that's why I refuse to sell my PS3, too many games coming out next year I want to get.

*Edit* Persona 3 is only $10 on the PSstore. Very tempting!

Too little, too late. Crash alone would not make me purchase a PS4.

Space makes me think of Rachet & Clank, though that is still somewhat active.

... Ape Escape? That would probably make me want one.
Lol!!! What is that supposed to mean, it makes no sense? Too little too late? The PS4 hasn't even launched globally yet and isn't even two weeks old, how can it possibly be TOO LATE??

On topic I definitely think Crash will be coming back. They have been using him in a lot of PS4 promotionals, showing the old commercial where he is at Nintendo's HQ, have a picture of him with an arrow to the SCE logo. Something's up because Sony has NEVER used him in promotionals for PS2 or PS3.

As for the space thing, Ratchet & Clank would fit. I believe there will be another full blown Ratchet for PS4 to coincide with the movie in 2015 or before in late 2014 but I don't think that's what they were talking about.

We all know about a new tales game, FFXV, and KH3, but Ni No Kuni 2 would be awesome! I hope this is true!! I haven't beat the first one yet(had to get Tales of Graces out of the way first) but so far it is awesome.

What I think of the Xbox One

I've heard a lot of different problems with the system including the faulty disk drive but I really doubt it's a widespread problem. Just the internet blowing a small thing up into something it's not. Just like with the PS4 and Wii U.

Persona 5 announced!
I am excited that PS3 is still getting great games! That's why I prefer Sony systems because they support them fairly well after the new systems come out. Next year we have Tales of Symphonia Chronicles, Tales of Xillia 2, Kingdom Hearts 2.5, Persona 5, Yakuza Ishin(albeit it's Cross Gen), and Final Fantasy X HD. The year of the RPG!

I haven't played any Persona though but I want to before P5 comes out to see how good it is. I've heard lots of good things and that Persona 4 was amazing on PS2. Is P4 Arena just an upgraded version of P4 or a spin off game? Should I buy the P3 PS2 classic off the PSN? Is that one any good?

That doesn't mean Sony can't work a deal with them to develop a new Crash game. After all the Call of Duty Vita game was developed by one of Sony's B 2nd party teams. I think there's definitely something there and even if Sony doesn't own it, a new game could be made. Honestly though I wouldn't care unless Naughty Dog or Sanzaru(Sly Thieves in Time) made it.

I would love to see Crash return to the HD era with some fantastic games. I obviously have reservations along the lines of "which Crash" we would see, like Fen said.

I loved the original Crash games when Crash was a sort of cocky, arrogant and slightly insane character, but then the ones I recall playing on 360 left me so very disappointed, whilst he looked mega cute he was a... bit of a spaz and that did not endear him to me in the slightest.

However, that being said if they did bring out a new Crash game series, I would be sorely tempted to jump into the realm of the PS4 and give it a whirl.

But then game companies are notorious for fanning a fire they themselves create only to let people down. So I'm not holding my breath.

That's because after the PS1 it wasn't made by Naughty Dog. They were the masterminds behind it and why the ones following it on Xbox/PS2/360/PS3 sucked. If it isn't being made by Naughty Dog I could care less.

N64 games to get Wii U HD treatment?

Oct 26 2013, 02:55 PM
Eh... I saw this a few days ago. I honestly don't believe it will happen at all. There's nothing from Nintendo themselves that even hint they're working on a project like this. Just seems like something completely made up from this "anonymous source."

Plus, GameCube games like the Wind Waker are on a whole other level from N64 games. They would have to completely remake N64 games to have them near Wii U's graphics. Wind Waker wasn't completely remade, just upgraded the same visuals and everything.

So yeah, just seems like a silly rumor.
Yeah, it's exactly why PS1 games aren't made in HD. You can clean it up a bit but they will still look quite outdated because it's not just poor textures, it's poor geometry. Although Mario 64 could look decent. Cartoony games hold up fairly well when in comparison to games that go for realism.

I'd rather see more GC HD remakes. Resident Evil 0 HD and Resident Evil Remake HD would be awesome.

Crash Bandicoot returning on PS4?
OMG, this is huge if it turns out to be true but so far here is what we know:

Amazon France/Germany list Crash for PS4 - I know retailers post bogus release dates/games some times but Amazon France/Germany have been known to leak real games before they're announced.

Anonymous source claims Crash is definitely coming back. - After Sony claimed a returning franchise would be coming back that involved space a lot of speculation began which quickly led people to believe it was Crash Bandicoot.

Activision removes all reference to Crash from their website. - Not only did Sony put an add out with a Crash Bandicoot Easter egg(which has Crash at the bottom, with an arrow above it pointing to the SCE logo), but Activision has closed the Crash website and removed all references to the series on their website.

Sony states Activision still owns the IP. - But they denied Twisted Metal returning on the PS3 and if it really were in development they couldn't just let the secret out now, now could they?

Is the denial enough to discourage you from believing it is still in development? On Reddit the last post says this:

Quote:

EDIT 5: Nov 22, 4:03 PM GMT — Activision on whether it still holds the rights to the Crash Bandicoot license: "No comment."

Why would they say, "No comment" to a franchise they own? If they did own the IP they would have no problem saying, "Yeah we own the franchise." Instead they say, "No comment" which means, "We can't talk about it."

I said I've heard as high as. Not that I took it for fact.

Also, the PS3 doesn't have as much grunt as the PS4 has. The thing is going to need more power. Using the same methods as before with a greater power input is going to lead to a bad time. You can't judge the next console by the last one's standards. It's short sighted and foolish.

It's all well and good that you have extreme loyalty for Sony, Metallix, but bad design choices are bad design choices. They may have saved a buck on production but in the end we as the consumer get shafted for it. Question your favourite company every once in a while. Fanboyism goes both ways.

I'm going to level with you here: The PS4 was my 'next gen' console of choice. But these are the sorts of things I can't overlook. And with the Xbone looking awful before it even gets out of the gate I don't much feel like going that way either. It's going to be a long time before I pick up one, if at all. For now the PS3 meets my Sony needs and will likely continue to do so for a while yet.

Finally, just because the average failure rate for ALL electronics is currently 15% doesn't mean the PS4 will have no more than 15%. That's an average across the board. Laptop computers on their own have one of 44% according to the chart. Who says the PS4 won't go the same way? Time will tell.

I'm just pointing out the flawed logic being used to accentuate a problem with no proof. If you know what your talking about, which apparently your sources did not, you would know the PS4 uses less power and produces less heat than the PS3 launch system. The original fat PS3 had no problems with overheating. So saying it is a design flaw when Sony and others have used it time and time again is flat out wrong.
ArsTechnia

Electrically, the PS4 draws about 150 Watts of energy when playing a high end game like Killzone, a number that drops to 130 or 140 Watts when playing less intensive titles like Resogun. That's better than the roughly 180 Watts of the launch edition of the PlayStation 3.

You do realize you can buy a brand new PS3 Super Slim or 360 S today and still run the risk of having one not work out of the box? They can iron out problems but no manufactured electronic will have a 0% failure rate, it's just not possible.

Btw, Sony released an updated figure for the failure rate of the launch PS4s as of now. It's still below 1% which would be roughly 10,000 PS4s (and Sony is offering Immediate replacements for those 1% effected). Yeah I would be upset too but I'd get over it. I bought a Samsung plasma HDTV 2 years ago on Black Friday and 13 days later it broke! Had Samsung pay for the repairs but it still sucked. I'm not saying it's not a bad thing at all, I'm just saying it's to be expected that some will have to be replaced(which was my point with the 15% figure not to say anything about PS4's failure rate) and am skeptical with people yelling that the sky is falling based on the internet. Don't go telling me I'm saying this because I'm loyal to them. I don't own only Sony products and have owned different brands of consoles before, this is just rational thinking...

Apparently or not. I've heard as high as 50%. 0.4% was the prediction based on initial testing, but they couldn't really know for sure until it got out there. 3 days in and they're already being sent back for repairs. Doesn't bode well, to be honest.

I'm hearing a lot about over-heating issues now due to the fact that Sony insists on keeping the power brick inside the console with next to no ventilation and cooling. It's beyond me why they haven't done what everyone else does and keep the brick on the outside. Can't melt things internally that way.

Either way, this is an issue in America, which is currently heading into Winter. You guys get SNOW during winter. It's the coldest season of the year and the things are still overheating.

I dread to think how many fires will start down here with us Aussies heading into Summer. Been nice knowing you, folks.
You can't tell me you ACTUALLY believe that 50% figure? First off, the only ones to actually know the figure would be Sony based on how many they have to replace and they have not stated a figure. Second off, 50% would be 500k total systems dead. Do you realize how big it would be if half of all PS4s sold so far were bricked? It wouldn't be just a few gaming sites reporting it. If 500k PS4s were dead it would be being covered by every major news agency, Sony would have to respond from angry share holders, the government might even have to get involved and force a recall which they have done in the past to other highly defective products.

It's just bitter Xbox fanboys trying to exaggerate things to look as bad as it was with the 360 which had the highest failure rate of any system ever. The fact that they claim it's due to the power supply being in the system shows they know nothing about electronics. It has NOTHING to do with that, the PS3 had it in the system and had no overheating problems at all. Not to mention it has already been reported the PS4 is very well engineered for airflow. If you feel like worrying, worry in vain. I'm not concerned whatsoever as this happened with every console since the beginning. Every electronic device has a failure rate at launch and that's a fact. The Xbone will have similar reports when it comes out too and be blown up by a bunch of dumb fanboys as well. The Average electronic has a failure rate of 15%.

Kinda surprised at that actually, the launch lineup doesn't appear to be all that good to be honest (To me at least. Don't really like Killzone but I'm sure others will). Doesn't change the fact that I'm hoping to stay off Assassin's Creed IV to play it next-gen. Good to hear though!
I'm surprised that you're surprised, really. All PS4 news has been praise since its first unveiling in February and that has only been amplified by Microsoft's bone head mistakes. When you buy a console at launch you don't buy it for launch titles alone, if that were the case no one would buy any systems at launch because no system has had a super fantastic launch lineup of games. Xbox, PS3, 360, Game Cube all had poor launch titles. Heck PS2 had the worst launch line up outside of obscure systems and look how that system turned out. Yeah the launch exclusives aren't stellar but I'd give the edge to the PS4 just because of the F2P games like Warframe, War Thunder, and DC Universe Online. Also there will be a steady stream of good exclusives in early 2014 with Drive Club, inFAMOUS Second Son, Planetside 2, and FF14 A Realm Reborn to name a few.

Other exciting news: New Tales game in development exclusively for PS4! I just beat Graces F, need to get onto Xillia at some point. Great series, glad I gave it a shot!

I'm hearing more problems about the thing than anything. Wobbles, bricks and no games, oh my!

Given recent trends I think holding off on launch for pretty much any console is the way to go. Gives them time to iron out the bugs (which everything seems to have), your desired system to build up a decent library of games and there's a chance of a price drop depending on how long you wait.

My brother is getting one on launch when it comes out in Australia none the less. I'm not expecting particularly great things from it at the moment, but we'll see how it goes.
We live in different times even from when the 360/PS3 launched. We live in a time where people will make themselves heard if they are upset and with that it will seem like things are a lot worse than they are. Needless to say everytime a popular product comes out you hear about problems. Sony has already addressed it though and have made troubleshooting videos and are working on fixing things/replacing it for free. So far the defect rate for the PS4 is 0.4% which is well under the norm for all electronics on average.

Nintendo 2DS
Honestly I think it's fine for kids, I wouldn't buy it though. 3DS is a much better package, imo. At first I thought it was dumb but it will do well for Nintendo me thinks.

Capcom cannot make Next Gen Fighter

not only RE, but Megaman, Phoenix Wright, Marvel vs. Capcom, Street Fighter (The focus of this thread, I presume,) and other series that they had made over the years whose names escape me.

Also I got a pretty enraging comment out of that too....

Some random dude/dudette on Monster Hunter on Nintendo

Monster Hunter has sold way more on Playstation then Nintendo….the series is wasted on Nintendo's terrible online infrastructure and garbage technology.

CoD Fanboy/girl/thing. I can smell the CoD-ness off of him/her/it.
I wouldn't call it garbage technology but the fact is Monster Hunter has sold better on Playstation and most of its fans are on Playstation, yet they chose to go exclusively to Nintendo. Bad call. If it were multiplatform, at the least, things would have gone better.

Another bad call was changing Devil May Cry into DMC... No one liked it from the beginning and the only reason why they changed is because DMC4 didn't do as well as the previous games. Well I wonder why? Maybe because it was released on systems that had a much lower install base than the PS2? Despite this DMC4 still did way better than the new one.

Resident Evil. It went way downhill with 6. 5 was just an ok ripoff of 4 but it lost most of what made 4 so great. Despite that it was still an average action game. 6 just butchered everything and was terrible.

Anyhow... Apparently they are readying up Ultra Street Fighter IV on current systems. Not really excited as it's the same game from 2008 with a few new characters. Dead Rising 3 is coming but it doesn't look too great. Deep Down is also coming and looks pretty good but who knows. I hope Capcom doesn't die, I'd miss them, but they have made stupid mistakes.

PS4 sold over 1 million consoles in its first 24 hours of release in North America, making it the fastest selling system on day 1 for the region! Holy crap!!

7th generation of gaming retrospective
I only owned a PS3 but my roommates had a 360. It's no secret that I've always preferred Playstation. Some of my favorite games of all time were on the PS3. The Uncharted series, The Last of Us, and Ratchet & Clank A Crack in Time. I am tempted to sell it to fund a PS4 but there are too many games I want to play and don't want to rebuy by selling the collection. Plus there are lots of games coming out I want to get Ratchet Into the Nexus just came out, Tales of Xillia 2, Tales of Symphonia Chronicles, Final Fantasy X HD, Gran Turismo 6. It will still get good games for another two years probably and then it'll just be all sports/cross gen games.
